Ships Tell Stories Too

Websites like Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, and LibertyEllisFoundation.org; are important aids to uncovering our immigrant ancestors. The image above is a passenger ship, the exact same passenger ship that my great great grandfather was on during one of his passages from Italy to New York. From this single image, I can vision an overcrowded boat. I know what the ship looked like and I can try to image the fears he had. The journey would have been long and people succumbed to illness and death. From this single image, a story can be created and your 2-dimensional ancestor all of a sudden becomes 3-dimensional: a person who at one point had feelings.
